This is an easy paced tour in and around Almaty.  Most people love being able to spend all four nights in the same central Almaty hotel without needing to pack/unpack and change hotels.

The tour gives you an opportunity to know the historic capital and largest city in Kazakhstan, and also has you venturing out into some of the areas of outstanding natural beauty nearby.

If time and budget allows, we’d recommend adding at least one more day and including a day tour to Charyn Canyon.

If you want to add a second country, Bishkek, the largest and capital city of Kyrgyzstan is only about four hours drive away.

Pricing

This 5 day/4 night tour, including accommodation and the guided sightseeing, meals, admissions and other items as detailed in the itinerary below, ranges in price depending on the time of year, how many people are traveling together, and the standard of hotel requested.

Detailed Itinerary

As with all our tours, you've a lot of flexibility. If you wish, we can add extra days, extra stops, extra activities. Please let us know exactly how you wish to enjoy your time in and around our capital city of Nur-Sultan.

Day 1 : Arrive Nur-Sultan, Local Touring

Another view of Astana.
The Norman Foster designed Khan Shatyr - the world's largest tent.

We’ll meet you upon arrival at the airport or train station this morning.  Chances are it will be an early arrival, and so we’ll first take you to breakfast.

After breakfast, we then see some of the amazing sights and sites in modern Nur-Sultan, starting first at the three level Nurzhol Boulevard on Millennium Avenue.

We then go on to the Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, said by Forbes Magazine to be the most unique building in the world.  It is also the largest tent in the world.

Next is the Opera House, which is the third largest theater in the world.  We can help you with ticket bookings if you’d like to attend a performance during your stay.

We then travel to Lovers’ Park, a traditional destination for newly-weds (and for those wishing to become so!).

Next up – and we mean “up” literally – is going to the viewing platform on the top of the Baiterek Tower, where you’re in the center of much of the modern development of the city.

We continue our city tour and then have a break for lunch.

After lunch we’ll walk some of the food calories off while touring around the Independence Square and buildings facing it.  Then, mid-afternoon, we take you to your hotel for the next two nights, giving you some free time and concluding with dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2 : Nur-Sultan City Touring

We start off with an aquatic theme this morning, first starting with a stroll along the embankment of the river Ishim.  This is a popular place for the locals to meet, with street vendors and entertainers, cafes, and other experiences along the promenade.

After walking for a while, we then take a sightseeing boat excursion further along the river.  If it’s a hot day, we’ll likely have refreshing cool breezes off the river as we cruise along.

After this, we go to the Museum of the First President, a treasure trove of amazing exhibits relating to the country’s heritage and especially its development since independence in 1991 and the tenure of our first President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, for the 28 years that followed.

After time for lunch we go to the Nur Alem Exhibition Complex.  This includes the largest spherical building in the world, inside of which is the fascinating Museum of the Future, with a look at new energy technologies.  Talking about looks, we take elevators up to a viewing platform for another view of the city and the EXPO 2017 site.

After this, we take you back to your hotel, in time for dinner.

Food and produce galore at the Green Bazaar.
The wooden Ascension Cathedral in Almaty

Day 3 : Transfer to Borovoye

The Esentai Mall and adjacent Ritz-Carlton Hotel
We think Almaty is a very beautiful city. We hope you'll agree

You’ll check out of your Nur-Sultan hotel this morning after breakfast, and we’ll then transfer you north up to the beautiful natural resort region of Borovoye.

We go through the Khan Pass with a beautiful view of the mountains around us and continue north, seeing the Cliffs of Ush-Kyz and mountains such as Burabay and Kokshetau.

We arrive at your hotel in time for an early afternoon lunch, and you have free time to enjoy the area for the rest of the day.

Day 4 : In Borovoye

The Borovoye region has been referred to as the Kazakh Switzerland, and as the “Pearl of Kazakhstan”.  Whatever you wish to call it, there is no doubt that it is an outstandingly beautiful part of our country.

Today you have a chance to enjoy this beautiful region.

The beautiful Big Almaty Lake
We visit the Sunkar Falconry Center and expect to see traditional falcon hunters and their birds.

Day 5 : Tour Ends, Extensions Possible

For a real treat, come and visit us in winter, too.

We hope you enjoyed your time in Borovoye, and more generally in Nur-Sultan, too.

Unless you’re extending your time, we’ll return you back to the Nur-Sultan area after breakfast this morning and to your choice of train station or airport for your ongoing travels – hopefully to somewhere else, with us, in Kazakhstan or a neighboring country, possibly somewhere else or back to your home.

Almaty City Tour

Almaty is simultaneously ancient and modern, and always an interesting city.

Our tour of the city will show you 19th century architecture, monuments, and magnificent street art, large distinctive modern buildings, and smaller historic structures.

The tour is a great opportunity to understand the history of the city and to see the magnificent landscapes of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountain range immediately outside the city!

During this tour you will reach a height of 10,000 ft (3200 m) above sea level, where you can take unforgettable photos over the city and beyond.

The guided tour is available in a selection of languages and typically starts between 9-10am when you are collected from your hotel, and you’re returned back at the end of the tour, usually between 5-6pm.  The tour is a mix of walking and being driven.

Among highlights are traveling a short distance out of town to the Medeo ice skating rink and Shymbulak ski resort (both fascinating all year round), and within the city, visiting Republic Square, the Panfilovsky Park of 28 Heroes, and the Green Bazaar.
