Almaty (Kazakhstan)

The residents and guests of Almaty are especially fond of the Kim-Asar Gorge. It is pretty easy to get here, climbing is not difficult and allows trekking for casual tourists all year round.

Season: January-December
Best period: June-November
Route difficulty: moderate trekking
Elevation changes: 1700-3000 m.

The Kim-Asar Gorge has one more name – the Komissarskoe (Komissar) Gorge. One of the versions tells that the word is translated from Kazakh as “the one, who will cross over”. Commissars of the Red Army could have rested here. It is no coincidence that one of the peaks is named after Furmanov.

Numerous circular trekking routes for people with different training start here. During trekking, tourists enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature. People trained for climbing can reach the ski resort of Shymbulak. During trekking, you will walk along the mountain paths and see edelweiss – the legendary mountain flower.
