This truly amazing site, sight and sound occurs when winds blow over the ridges of the sand dunes when they are dry, causing the sand to shift and make a unique type of sound. They are located north-east of Almaty, in the country's largeset national park, Altyn-Emel.
The residents and guests of Almaty are especially fond of the Kim-Asar Gorge. It is pretty easy to get here, climbing is not difficult and allows trekking for casual tourists all year round.

The Kim-Asar Gorge has one more name – the Komissarskoe (Komissar) Gorge. One of the versions tells that the word is translated from Kazakh as “the one, who will cross over”. Commissars of the Red Army could have rested here. It is no coincidence that one of the peaks is named after Furmanov.

People trained for climbing can reach the ski resort of Shymbulak. During trekking, you will walk along the mountain paths and see edelweiss – the legendary mountain flower.
