Trip to the beautiful Kolsay Lakes, visit to the mystical Lake Kaindy and the Charyn Canyon.
Route: Almaty Region (Kazakhstan)
Season: January to December
Day 1. From Almaty to Lake Kaindy
Departure at 7 AM ends with arrival at Lake Kaindy about 1 PM. You will camp down and have lunch, then a walk is planned.
The Birch Lake is surrounded by a coniferous area. It appeared quite recently, in the last century, after the earthquake caused a landslide, which blocked the gorge. Its water is so cold that the fallen pine needles at the bottom are well preserved. The trunks of flooded trees are seen from the lake, which creates a fantastic view. You certainly need to see this yourself.
Dinner at the camp and free time, Overnight stay in tents or in a village guest house (in winter).
Day 2. From Lake Kaindy to the Kolsay Lakes
Early wake-up, breakfast and departure to the lower lake of Kolsay, then hiking to the middle lake, on the shore of which the lunch is planned.
The attraction includes three lakes, the largest one is accessible for tourists. You can also order a horse-riding tour. The upper one is surrounded by forests and meadows, it has rich flora and fauna. We use cars to get to the lower lake. These are cold water bodies with clear water and rainbow trout in it.
Transfer to the village of Saty, overnight stay and dinner.
Day 3. The Kolsay Lakes and return back
After breakfast, we go to the canyon, have a tour to the Valley of Castles.
The Charyn Canyon is a unique sanctuary created by nature. It is similar to the US Grand Canyon, but smaller in size. The relief here is mesmerizing: deep ravines and hollows create fantastic picture. The possibilities of nature shown here are breathtaking. For millennia only wind and water created a unique place of majestic towers that look like castles.
Lunch and departure back. Return to Almaty by about 7 PM.
