One of nature's marvels, the Charyn Canyon is over 56 miles (90 km) in length with beauty and majesty reminiscent of the US Grand Canyon. Located only 2 hours from Almaty, it is easy to visit.
Experience stunning unspoiled natural beauty and tranquility here. Even the wild animals do not fear humans.
The Dzungarian Gate, the most popular area in this region for visitors, is a mountain pass between Birliktau and Militau, and formerly part of the great Silk Road trading route.
Have you ever heard sand dunes sing?
This truly amazing site, sight and sound occurs when winds blow over the ridges of the sand dunes when they are dry, causing the sand to shift and make a unique type of sound. They are located north-east of Almaty, in the country's largeset national park, Altyn-Emel.
You can see the most beautiful canyons traveling by jeeps through Zhetysu (the "Seven Rivers" Area). The greatness of the nature creations is fascinating. You will visit Bestamak, Temirlik, Kyzylzhar and the Valley of Castles.
Route: Almaty Region (Kazakhstan)
Season: January to December
Day 1. Transfer to the Kyzylzhar Canyon
Early departure and arrival at the Red Canyon. Camping down, lunch and walk.
You will enjoy the fascinating views of Boguty. After the rain, the territory looks unearthly, bright red, like Mars. A volcano used to be here, as is evidenced by the massifs of solidified lava, formed during the dinosaur age.
Return to dinner in the camp. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 2. Visit to the Kyzylzhar Canyon and the Valley of Castles
We invite you to travel along the Charyn Canyon, where you will see the Valley of Castles. Tourists will have lunch and a walk.
Nature in these places is amazing. The Canyon resembles the US Grand Canyon, but is smaller in size. The sight of sheer rocks is impressive. An unusual relief is formed by a number of hollows, randomly crossing and hanging over deep ravines. The main architect here was the wind, which created towers from sedimentary rocks, unusual in beauty and grandeur. This is the Valley of Castles, named so because natural structures here are similar to the architectural ones. The nature's abilities are amazing.
Overnight stay in tents.
Day 3. Visiting the Valley of Castles, visiting the canyons of Bestamak and Temirlik
In the morning after breakfast we have a transfer to the canyon of Bestamak, known as the Moon Valley. Its special feature is the rounded soft surface that resembles that of the Moon. You seem to travel through the lunar crater, feeling how diverse the nature is in these places.
Lunch and a trip to Temirlik.
The canyon was named after the Temirlik River, which springs from the Ketmen Ridge. The nature here is beautiful with rich flora. The main gem of the local flora is the relict ash, which is a natural sanctuary.
Dinner by the fire at the camp, overnight stay.
Day 4. From Temirlik Canyon back to Almaty
After breakfast and packing up, transfer to the sightseeing platform. Here you will see the Valley of Castles in all its splendor. Departure back, lunch at the cafe on the way. Return to the city at about 8 PM.
