Have you ever heard sand dunes sing?
This truly amazing site, sight and sound occurs when winds blow over the ridges of the sand dunes when they are dry, causing the sand to shift and make a unique type of sound. They are located north-east of Almaty, in the country's largeset national park, Altyn-Emel.
We invite you to the jeep tour along the high-mountain Assy plateau to admire the beautiful natural landscapes that will open on our way.
Day 1. From Almaty to the Assy Plateau and the Bartogaj Lake
At 08:00, tourists depart from Almaty to Turgen Gorge, with a tour to the Medvezhyj (Bear) Waterfall.
The gorge is located in the Ile-Alatau Natural Park, 90 km from the city. It is surrounded by the coniferous forests, with relic fir trees covering the earth with a fir carpet. This is the area of alpine meadows, mountain lakes and springlets, waterfalls and hot springs.
The easiest way is to get to the Medvezhyj (Bear) Waterfall at a height of 28 meters. The water in it does not heat above 12 degrees even on the hottest day. The resulting water dust instantly relieves tiredness and invigorates travelers. The waterfall is not by chance called “Medvezhyj”, since Tien Shan bears dwell in the surrounding mixed forests.
The way to the Assy Plateau. Dinner. A tour to the Red Rocks, visit to the Observatory.
The plateau is located at a height of 2500 meters, and is a plain surrounded by mountains. In the south-west, you can see snow-covered peaks, the rivers surrounded by fir tree forests. Traditionally, this is the place of grazing, today being the largest pasture of the Republic.
The rock paintings along the rivers are considered to be the highest mountain cluster of images in Kazakhstan. The mountain top observatory is located here. Tourists are then transferred to the Bartogaj Lake, where the camp is set up. Dinner by the fire and staying overnight in tents.
Day 2. From the Bartogaj Lake to Almaty city
Breakfast at 09:00. Free time for a walk near the lake.
The Bartogaj Lake is located in the floodable part of the Chilik River. It was created to accumulate water in winter and to irrigate fields in summer through a canal of 160 km. Water is supplied at a capacity of 100 m3 per second, a fountain is 100 meters high. The bursting streams form a water spray cloud, iridescent in the sunlight.
Lunch and departure to Almaty city at 15:00, arrival in Almaty at 19:00.
