Destination Info

Kazakhstan is big (see the map, below).  We’re the ninth largest country in the world.  We’re also very empty – plenty of room for our stunning scenery – with a population of only 18 million, we’re only 64th on the list of most populous countries.

To our south are the other -stan countries.  Many visitors combine a visit to Kazakhstan with time in one or more of our four fellow former Soviet Republics, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan too.

TriptoKZ, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan (the red dot on the map) can help you with travel throughout the -stan region.

Please click the link to the country you’d like to know more about, or go straight to information on touring, accommodation, day tours, and other travel arrangements in the menu above.  And if there’s anything else you’d like to know about our region, or any other way we can help you, please let us know.  We’re here to help.

Kazakhstan

The largest and most prosperous of the 'stan countries, with substantial energy and mineral resources.
Most visitors choose to include Kazakhstan when visiting this region.

Kyrgyzstan

Abundant unspoiled nature. A land of mountains, lakes, and beautiful vistas.
A less well developed economy and with fewer natural resources than Kazakhstan.

Tajikistan

The smallest of the five 'stans. However, Tajikistan has the highest mountains.
This is a country with potential, ready for development.

Turkmenistan

Enormous natural gas reserves have helped give this country better prosperity and reasonable stability, more so than some of its neighbors.
The least populous of the five 'stan countries.

Uzbekistan

Many years ago was at the heart of the ancient Silk Road (which also passes through most of the other 'stan countries too).
Has some beautiful historic and well-preserved architecture.

Almaty City Tour

Almaty is simultaneously ancient and modern, and always an interesting city.

Our tour of the city will show you 19th century architecture, monuments, and magnificent street art, large distinctive modern buildings, and smaller historic structures.

The tour is a great opportunity to understand the history of the city and to see the magnificent landscapes of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountain range immediately outside the city!

During this tour you will reach a height of 10,000 ft (3200 m) above sea level, where you can take unforgettable photos over the city and beyond.

The guided tour is available in a selection of languages and typically starts between 9-10am when you are collected from your hotel, and you’re returned back at the end of the tour, usually between 5-6pm.  The tour is a mix of walking and being driven.

Among highlights are traveling a short distance out of town to the Medeo ice skating rink and Shymbulak ski resort (both fascinating all year round), and within the city, visiting Republic Square, the Panfilovsky Park of 28 Heroes, and the Green Bazaar.
